filter cleaning

WHAT IS AN EFFLUENT FILTER?

An effluent filter is a filter constructed primarily of plastic located on the outlet side of the septic tank to help capture larger solid particles which would otherwise travel to the drain field. The purpose of this type of filter is to help increase the life span of the septic system. Not all septic systems have a filter of this type.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I CLEAN AN EFFLUENT FILTER?

The Department of Health (DEP) recommends replacing or cleaning the filter annually.

CAN I CLEAN THE EFFLUENT FILTER MYSELF?

While the procedure itself for cleaning an effluent filter is not extremely difficult, it can be a very messy job that is best left to professionals.
